How I Have Grown

Over this semester I have learned many things. I now know that I have to study a lot more than in high school. I also learned to manage my time. Through the Hixson seminar I have learned about all of the resources that are available to me as an Iowa State student. I have also grown to be more responsible and independent. I am now more confident in who I am than I was before I came to Iowa State.


I am so glad that I decided to come to Iowa State because I have grown so much since I have been here. I know that if I work hard enough I can accomplish anything that I set my mind to. Also, I know that no matter what, the experiences that I have gone through in my first semester will have a big impact on the rest of my life. I am looking forward to the next three and a half years at Iowa State.

Hixson Award

Being chosen to receive the Hixson award was such an honor. By receiving this scholarship my worries about being able to pay for college were greatly decreased. When I received this scholarship I was surprised. I knew that there were probably a lot of other people applying for it so I did not think I would receive it. It made my transition into college a lot easier because I did not have to worry as much about how I would be paying for it. 


Receiving the Hixson award also means that I will not have to worry about my future as much. I am planning on going to medical school so I thought that I was going to be in a lot of debt. Now that I have most of my college education paid for I am not as worried. I will still have a lot of debt from medical school, but it will not be nearly as bad as it could have been. I am honored to call myself a 2011 Hixson Scholar.
