Throughout social media week I learned many things. One thing that surprised me was that Facebook, Twitter, and other social media cites are good ways to connect with other people that are in the same career field and to possible employers. I knew that they were good places to connect with people that are my own age and have the same interests, but I did not realize that there are so many more people to connect with. I also learned that I have to make sure that my profile and the things that I post are professional because future employers could look at it.
During the week I participated on Facebook. I chose this because I was already comfortable using it, so I knew that it would make finding groups and people to connect with easier. I believe that social media will greatly help me on my way to becoming a doctor. It will help me connect with people that are going through the same process, as well as future employers.
When I read the articles there was only one that really surprised me. It was Mexico Turns to Twitter and Facebook for Information and Survival. I was truly surprised that social media is one of the only ways that people in Mexico can get reliable news, and even then it is not always correct. In many places the government and media have been corrupted so the only source of news is from the public. From the articles I also learned how beneficial the social media can be when trying to connect and make an impression on employers.
